Our Story
We started with the one part of aging nobody wants to talk about.
A quiet shift in body chemistry, a Japanese ingredient with centuries behind it, and a soap built to actually reach the source instead of covering it up.
Where it began
Most soap is made for skin that isn't changing.
I noticed that a family member’s body odor had changed as they got older. It wasn’t a hygiene issue—they showered regularly and took care of themselves—but the usual products didn’t seem to help. Rather than make them feel self-conscious, I started looking for answers.
That research led me to 2-nonenal, an odor compound associated with changes in the skin as we age, and to persimmon, an ingredient long used in Japanese body care. It made me realize how little everyday body care speaks to the natural changes that come with getting older.
The more we looked into it, the clearer the gap became. Skin chemistry shifts as we get older, and very few everyday products are formulated with that in mind — most are built once, for one kind of skin, and sold to everyone regardless of age.
What We Found
A scent with a name, and an old answer to it.
Around midlife, the body begins producing more of a compound called nonenal. It's oil-based, which is exactly why it's stubborn — it settles into skin and fabric in a way water and ordinary suds can struggle to fully lift.
In Japan, kareishū (加齢臭)
this has a name and a long history of being addressed the same way: with persimmon. Its natural tannins have been used for generations for their ability to bind to oils like this at the source.
